there is some info below about kitesurfing to give you an appetite..

thanks for reading

Kitesurfing or kite boarding is an individual primarily recreational sport. It is conducted on open areas of water, which can be shallow or deep, flat or bumpy, in preferably constant winds between 8 -50knots.
The ‘pilot’ aims to fly the kite in a pattern to produce power to pull him/herself along the surface of the water across the wind, following the same basic principles as sailing. There is no motor power involved.
The pilot wears a harness to balance his/her weight against the kite. There is no connection between the kite and the board apart from via the pilot.

Below are more details of the equipment and skills required for kitesurfing

There are many disciplines to the sport, which have different aims from speed, to waveriding to freestyle. A large part of the sport involves performing jumps, which are initiated by the pilot flying the kite in a certain way. The directions of possible travel are similar to the basic principles of sailing.
The kitesurfer is the link between the board and the kite, as the two pieces of equipment are not connected.

Skills required

The primary skill to kitesurfing is to be able to control and fly the kite competently. Once this is mastered, the board is then introduced and the pilot must initiate power in the kite at the appropriate time to pull them up and along the surface of the water. This power must be prolonged by the constant flying of the kite in the correct zone to continue moving.
Once the basics are mastered, the skills of riding, jumping, tricks, waves can then by practiced. Due to the nature and freedom of the sport, there is no end to the skills base, as it is evolving and growing continuously.

Equipment

There are several pieces of essential equipment for kitesurfing.

The Kite

This is the means of propulsion. It is wind powered, by flying within a ‘Wind Window’ where there are different zones of power/pull and neutral stability.
Kites used for kitesurfing in the majority are supported by a series of inflatable tubes, which provide a framework between which material is stretched to grab wind in the same principle as a sail. Not all kites have inflatable tubes. These can be substituted for solid battens, or a double layer of cloth, providing a cell type structure with a series of ‘Bridle/ supporting lines’ to help maintain a stable shape.
Inflatable kites tend to relaunch from the water better when crashed hence their popularity. There are three type of inflatable kite SLE, Hybrid, and C shape. These refer to the kite’s design and flying characteristics.

Control

The majority of kitesurfing kites fly on Bars. These will involve a ‘depower’ system to help control the kite. Some kites can be flown on handles. The bar option is more popular as it allows easy single-handed flying.
Lines made from non-stretch spectra type material connect the kite to the bar. Depending on the type and complexity of the kite, there can be, 2, 4 or 5 lines used to fly the kite. The majority of kites are flown on 4/5 line depowerable bars. Line length can vary between 10m and 40m. Typical length is 25m.

All bars/ kites will have some form of safety system allowing complete ejection of the kite’s power without releasing the kite completely. The basic principle of a safety system is to release the wind from the kite’s canopy by releasing tension of all but a single line, or prevent the kite’s canopy from collecting wind effectively letting it ‘flag’.
Good modern safety systems allow quick relaunch capabilities as well as instant depower.

Boards

Kiteboards can come in a wide variety of types/shapes and sizes.
The majority of the market is occupied by ‘Twin tip’ boards, which are multidirectional and symmetrical transversely through the mid point between the rider’s feet. These range in size between 1.1m and 1.6m in length, and .3m and .5m in width at the widest point. They tend to be made from snowboard type materials such as high compression airex/ divinycell cores with Hardened ABS rails. This provides flexibility, grip and durability in a board.
The second type of board is comparable to a surfboard. Typical size is between 1.5m and 2m in length, .4m to .7m in width. These are mono directional and can be ridden with or without foostraps. They are for use in waves seas.
Both boards will have a fin configuration on the bottom to provide grip through the water.

Harnesses

It is necessary to wear a harness to spread the load of the kites pull and direct it through the board into forward motion. Harnesses come in two styles.
Seat harnesses have a lower hook position, and fit around the kitesurfers bottom with leg straps coming under the legs from front to back. These give good support in learning and better leverage and performance for speed and power.
Waist harnesses have a higher hook position and fit around the rider’s lower abdomen like a weightlifters belt. These provide more flexibility and freedom of movement for tricks and manoeuvres.

WAINMAN HAWAII GAMBLER 5'10 REVIEW

For the last few years now i have been riding the Wainman hawaii Smoke 9m kitesurfing kite and Wainman Hawaii Gypsy 7m and really have found a new love for kitesurfing with these products.. When Wainman Launched there First range of Surfboards my eyes lit up! they Rode just as they looked, Fanstastic.
The First Surfboard i had from them was the 5'8 Wide and i have to tell you it was just something else.. Stable, Rode upwind like a dream was great with Straps and Strapless, and to top it all off the Top and Bottom Turns it produced were like something of the ASP tour. This board made you feel special, also for the fact i was probably the only guy on the beach with one. So it also Turned heads.

Just to Refresh your Memory this is what it looked like, Shaped by Jimmy Lewis.

Then the time came to sell this Gem of a board on, Which maybe i should not have done, as i only realized how special this board was after it left my hands, and i had to take a different stick on the water.
I have tried so many surfboards over the course of the year leading up to the release of the New Gambler / Passport and Mangum.  and really found nothing that comes close

So when the Guys came from Wainman hawaii in  July to see us here at Hydr8boardsports and they pulled out the new Gambler my eyes lit up and i melted.!! 5"10x 20 wide Quad, Thruster, and 5 Fin configuration!! i need to get myself one of those, also a great Color Scheme...

I was then told by the guys at Wainman Hawaii that there would a bit of a wait. to get my hands on one.

I know that here at hydr8boardsports we were the first to get these boards in the UK...
.
This is what Wainman Hawaii say about the Gambler

The Wainman Hawaii Gambler is a totally new and very modern, progressive shape, referring to our last year Wide model, however it is light years ahead of it. This shape was designed for everyday fun in all conditions ridden 4-5 inches shorter than your average classic board. With less length and more width this board is made for progressive and more floaty radical surfing even when the waves are not that great. Because of the 3D bottom shape, special channels in it and good amount of the rocker. This board is still very fast which means it is stable in higher speeds despite being apparently wider which is its advantage for the bottom end conditions both in the wave and wind aspect. This extra width gives this board quicker surf planing and catches more of the wave to surf it. The Gambler provides the fun factor in smaller onshore waves, however in nice side-shore bigger waves, it rocks as well because of its smart rocker. This board is like 2 in one: it can make a session in a smaller shorter onshore wave a blast and it also can serve you well in a very big side shore waves with strong wind and high speeds - because of the generous amount of rocker. The bottom shape goes from double under your front foot to single off the tail. And that makes turns really nice despite the wider width. Despite its name Gambler, it is a very safe shape as it provides lots of fun in both: crappier conditions when its special dimensions help to squeeze out surf time and in the epic days when the great hydrodynamics and proportions don't make you suffer that you ride a little fat boy. However as you can rip in those versatile conditions, you will go for it more often and the chances that you will be wet are getting higher! For sure a fun all-round board with lots of potential for flat waters as well.

In the Last Month the Uk has given me the Perfect conditions to test the Wainman Hawaii Gambler from well over head high surf with my 7m Gypsy to 2ft Wind chop on my 9m Smoke this board does what it says on the Tin..
My First decent session was at Sandbanks after a very heavy Storm, the wind was side shore from the Right, Not my Favourite Tack as its my Back Hand, but a great chance to hit some welll over head Hig sets on the Gambler.
5"10 i was riding it in the Quad fin strapped Set up, as i wanted the extra drive to keep getting back upwind to be able to Hit the sections. i wanted to ride.
First off the Quad Fin Set up works super well, the Drive of the Fins is perfect, coupled with the Extra width it made the board so stable, I think that anyone could jump on this Directional  and have a blast, you dont get any of that Nose High action if the Back foot is too far back, which is something Newbies find an issue with when jumping on Directionals for the First time. The Wide Flat Deck is also a pleasure as Wainman Hawaii have really thought out the Deck grip, positioning, when you buy the Gambler you get a selection of deck pads i actually put them all on. I really hate Wax as i cant be bothered to keep applying it every session, it seems to become very slippy as your using you feet far more than you would if you were surfing. There is nothing more Frustrating than have great waves to ride and realizing your wax is no good!..
Back to the Ride, Smooth in the Wind chop aswell, the board just glides over it, there seems to be the perfect balance of Weight and Flex in the board, some EPS style Surfboards can be either 2 lite and soft, or too stiff, Sean Ordonez has got this dialed in..

Picking up swell, as soon as the Gambler Finds a Wave its away, the board just picks up speed, excaclty how you would expect a Surf board to when paddaling into a wave. again this is done to the Rocker and bottom shape, and also that extra Drive from the Fins. This is something i really loved as too many Kitesurf boards relie on the kites power to drive the board on to the wave face, this allows you to really park the kite and concentrate on throwing your top and bottom turns.

With the Quad fin setup i was supprised how tight i could get my top and bottom turns, i was expecting far bigger arching turns but the fins just let the board Pivot which was great news..
it basically turned like a Tr-Fin.. but with all the added extras of a Quad.

I have not tried it in the Tri-Fiin configuration as yet but will do when i head to Barbados.. in January. Stay Tuned for Go Pro action shots..

All in all i think the Gambler is going to be the Finest 5"10 on the Market, its a Credit the Wainman Hawaii Team as they really do put there time and effort into getting there Products right before releasing onto the Market.

There is No bullshit Marketing Hype, So many Brands think that By Marking your Surfboard Look Nice, (by giving it a wood Finish) that it will ride good..

Just come try the boards and you will be Dazzled, if you can find i better board on the Market than the Gambler please post your reviews.

Just a little Video here to keep your appetite wet for the Wainman Gambler..

Technical Information

The HADLOW Freestyle presents a world's first, innovative rocker. Showcasing three stages down the centre line, combined with a normal, smooth rocker line on the rails, this unique base shape creates a concave shell in the centre, allowing for greater rocker whilst maintaining all of its speed. This setup offers a fast, smooth ride with a good grip and soft, locked in landings.

Honed, Performance Maximising Tips

The width and flexibility of tips have been designed and perfected through competition as well as Aaron's personal obsession with details and precise attitude, to offer the prefect setup, sinking the tail effectively to create maximum, trick-busting pop.

Premium Construction

Flexifoil have chosen to use one of the world's most premium snowboard manufacturers to guarantee construction techniques to match its excellent performance. We guarantee that this board will offer exceptional construction standards and take the punishment of a world champion. If Aaron can't break it on the water, we doubt you can!

Feeling and Performance

The Freestyle board is comfortable across all conditions, carving through chop with ease, but it really comes into its own in flat water, with break-neck speeds and superb grip and pop.

The board is perfectly suited to professional riders looking to excel at their own freestyle performance, but you won't be lost on it if you're at an intermediate level. Despite powering through the water, grip and stability ensure that the Freestyle board is a great learning platform if you really want to push yourself.

Suitable for

All levels of competent rider from intermediate to professional.

Riding style

The ideal tool for full on freestylers, but also a great board for intermediates to grow on whilst learning jumps and tricks.

Riding feel

Ultra smooth ride but maintaining high end performance, the Freestyle board offers comfort in choppy conditions and an exceptional performance in flat water .

The board generates lots of pop and solid, easy to control landings, essential for freestyle tricks.

So Why Buy?

With consistent demand and enquiries for HADLOW's boards ever since the launch of his kites, as his profile and brand have continued to grow and offer exceptional performance in kitesurfing, Flexifoil is confident that the HADLOW Freestyle board will be one of the leading stars of the late 2010 season and into 2011. Aaron has worked with Colin McCulloch to develop the board for many years, and with the combined expertise of these two greats we absolutely guarantee that you won't find a better board to pass onto your consumer. Plus, with Flexifoil's ever attractive pricing, you know you're going to stay competitive.

For weeks now the HADLOW board has been touring around under the radar at events with Aaron and we've yet to see a nose turned up.

The Package

The HADLOW Freestyle is the first board from Flexifoil to be offered with fins and without pads and straps. Aaron uses and recommends Mystic pads and straps for the Freestyle board, but this package allows the board to be catered for comfort and to the consumers preferred setup.

"This board is the shape I worked on together with Colin McCulloch over the years that helped me to achieve 5 world championships ... it's unique flex and rocker line combined to produce amazing performance for the best of riders and a comfortable, easy ride for any one just wanting to cruise"

SURFING, KITESURFING, SUP FITNESS WITH HYDR8BOARDSPORTS

SURF FIT

Welcome to Hydr8 Board Sports Surf Fit monthly training column.

Every month there will be a new and exciting article focusing on an area of fitness and training to help all you water sports enthusiasts make the most of your chosen sport.

We have linked with Gary Hill Personal Training to provide you with the most up-to-date expert advice. For more information visit www.garyhillpersonaltraining.com

The first of our monthly installments will focus on why we need to hit the gym to get the most from the water.

‘RIP IT UP IN THE GYM!’

Training for sports ‘off the field’ is considered an essential component of any athletes schedule, regardless of their chosen discipline. More commonly known as Strength & Conditioning, athletes use the gym in conjunction with their sports specific training practice to improve their performance  and put them ahead of the game. Whether you are a top level professional athlete or a complete novice, you should be in the gym if you want to improve your performance.

How many of you train ‘off the water’ to improve your performance on the water? Whether you surf, kite, wind surf, ski, paddle board, or body board (just to name a few), I can guarantee to get better on your board, you need to get off your board! All of the above require good balance, coordination, strength, agility, power, speed, muscular & cardiovascular endurance, and stability, injury prevention and good mental focus. By simply doing your sport, you will touch on the above areas, and you will improve, but you will eventually hit a plateau and find it difficult to step up to the next level. If you are happy with jumping on your board every now and then just to enjoy the waves, then fair enough, but if you strive to improve and be your best, then it makes sense to work on the components of your sport in more detail. This is where Strength & Conditioning comes into play...

By following a planned and progressive training plan tailored to meet your requirements, you will improve your performance on the water...GUARANTEED! When you build a house, you must build a foundation before you lay your bricks...the same applies for your body...before you develop your body into a lean mean surfing machine, you must build a foundation. This requires working from the inside first before you start lifting heavy weights. This first phase targets our Core Stability and Muscular Endurance. Basically working on all those deep stabilizing muscles that help protect our joints and keep them stable. By achieving great core stability and muscular endurance we will prevent unwanted injuries (in and out of the water), use our body the way it is designed to move (correct imbalances and rehab old injuries), improve balance, coordination and flexibility, and most importantly create a stable base to move on to the next phases of our training (For example increasing muscle size, strength and power).
Next month’s Hydr8 Board Sports Surf Fit will break down the first phase of your Surf Fit Training Program...Stability & Endurance. But for those of you who are keen to get into the gym and start your journey to peak physical condition, we have highlighted a few exercises to get you started..

EQUILIBRIUM POWER BALANCE BANDS NOW IN STOCK

Enhance strength, balance & stability

EQ combines negative ion and unique advanced Holographic technology. Equilibrium holograms have 8 encoded frequencies that interact with the body’s energetic envelope working in harmony to enhance balance, strength and stability.

Our world is composed of energy fields and vibration wave forms that constantly interact with one another. At EQ, we believe that humans and animals posses their own energy fields. Many of these energy fields we encounter each day have a negative energy sapping effect on the body i.e. radiation, pollution, electrical pylons, drugs and food loaded with toxic matter.

There are also energies that give a positive effect i.e. negative ions, organic food, pure water, music.

Equilibrium has been known to interact with the natural life force we all posses helping us to perform at a higher level, enhancing balance, strength and stability.

When an EQUILIBRIUM hologram sits within your aura its coded frequencies clear the electrical pathways of negative energy. Your performance will be closer to fulfilling its highest potential. Our experienced practitioners have researched these techniques to study the effect of those positive and negative frequencies on the human body, especially in relation to performance in sport.

Benefits May Include:
·         Instant better Balance
·         Increased Strength
·         Faster Recovery
·         Greater Flexibility
·         Enhanced Coordination, Stamina and Endurance
·         Abatement of jet lag and motion sickness

PRESS RELEASE Progression Kiteboarding Intermediate Vol. 1 26th August 201
Fat Sand are excited to announce the eagerly awaited release of the Progression Kiteboarding Intermediate Volume 1 DVD.
Following on from the Beginner 2nd Edition DVD released 12 months ago, this video is essential viewing for all kitesurfers who have mastered the basics but who now want to take their riding to the next level. Intermediate Volume 1 will help you nail your first tricks, including toeside riding, carving turns and the ultimate step up for every new kiter - jumping - now easily achievable with a mammoth Jumping chapter included a section on pop! The DVD will also equip kiters with essential knowledge to deal with most types of conditions - lightwind technique, strong wind survival & coping with waves. And finally, a completely new and unique section that outlines some invaluable theory and practical advice on tuning you kite, lines and bar setup.
Over 2 1⁄4 hours of in-depth instruction, shot exclusively for this DVD in crystal clear high definition. Each shot shows you exactly what is going on, aided by our talented and accredited coaches, Christian Harris, Karine Navital & James Boulding.
Each chapter is built around our established Progression Method, which has proved successful over the past 7 years and 7 Progression DVDs. Detailed technique breakdown, common problem analysis, split screens, slow motion repeats and graphic overlays - all proven at aiding faster development. The ultimate objective to break down the complexities of what we are trying to learn into more focused, easily identifiable and memorable parts.
1Fat Sands’ CEO, Rob Claisse, was clear on the motivation for creating this DVD : “When you reach the intermediate level of kitesurfing you are so enthusiastic & hungry to learn more. You are at the point where your progression can accelerate massively, but many will hit a plateau and then just find kiting frustrating. Progression Intermediate Volume 1 is there to give you those key bits of insight that will keep you progressing; whether its nailing that next trick or just making your next session more enjoyable!”.
This Intermediate Volume 1 DVD is not a replacement for the current Intermediate DVD but fits perfectly between it and the Beginner 2nd Edition. Once kiters have mastered the tricks in Volume 1, they will be ready to tackle the back rolls, front rolls and aeriel transitions described in the classic Progression Kiteboarding Intermediate DVD.

Airush One Reviews and info

Available in 6m, 9m, 12m and 15m with prices set to be less than the already successful Airush Lithiums and Varials.
Dom @ Kitesurf Mag (12m ONE kite):
"I dunno if I’m supposed to be mentioning the Airush One yet, if I’m asked to delete this I will, but lemme say it is without compare the most capable light wind 12m I’ve ever flown. And I’ve flown a few.
I mean that in the sense that it’s quick, light, relaunches well, flies without obvious compromise and has a huge sweet spot.
Yes, the Flysurfer Speed 3 will develop a more impressive light wind grunt but you’re not gonna take it into the waves lest you are
smoking crack. So yeah, that Airush One is gonna turn some heads – you hear that here first.
Did I mention that it doesn’t come with one pump? Think about it…"

"... the advantages of a one strut kite that become apparent after the first session are: set up is quick, pack down is easy and quick, relaunch is easy (no water wheel effect of extra struts), flies great and pulls well in light winds (improved aerodynamics I’m guessing)"
"The weight saving advantages of the design should be pretty obvious to anyone that flies it - better upwind, stability, responsiveness of the 12m - this is a very good thing because I think customers sometimes struggle to identify exactly what the hyped features on some kites are actually
doing for them. One strut seems to make sense in a lot of areas!"

Read more from Dom about the Airush ONE on his blog here:  and look out for the full test in the next issue.

Jim @ Kiteworld Mag (12m ONE kite):
"Just a quick one to let you know I went for what felt like a paragliding session on the One 12m last night. Didn't get chance for a long session,
but there aren't many kites that make you giggle like child as soon as you get on them! Impressed and keen to get the rest of the test team on
it ASAP!"

"I
really don't want to give you this kite back, but I guess we've tested the One enough.
Bully and I had an awesome session on it yesterday.
It's just so well balanced, positive and juicy!
"

Look out for the full Kiteworld test report in the next issue.
It is not often that a product comes to market with truly innovative design, possibly changing the face of kiting as we know it.
Be the first to get behind this new kite.

Here are some reviews of the Airush One kite we will have this kite on Demo for the Windfest weekend! cant wait to fly it, sounds really exciting...

2010 OZONE ZEPHYR 17M LIGHTWIND KITE REVIEW

Ozones Lightwind specific kite is designed with a high performance profile and a focus on weight saving. The Zephyr delivers the same superior handling, power, feel and control as you have come to expect from Ozone.

The Zephyr is the ideal kite for any rider wishing they could ride in light winds or for heavy riders looking for the ultimate large size kite with a huge wind range.

Out of the bag - Straight away the first thing we noticed was the build quality, as with all Ozone kites the build quality is outstanding everything has a real solid feel to it and is very well thought out and constructed. It comes in a decent easy entry bag with user manual, repair kit and a bar pocket inside. The bar is one of the best on the market this year, clean, simple and very straight forward, features above the bar depower cleat, 100% depower below the bar safety system and solid stainless steel suicide leash attachment.

On the water - The wind started light (about 10 knots) and i had no problems riding upwind on a 135cm board. It delivers very consistent pull and keeps you planing through the lulls, although its a 17m it feels and handles more like a 14m, the turning speed isnt epic but for a 17m kite its pretty good. The re-launch even in light wind is very good just pull on the bar and it rolls off the water - essential in light winds.
As the session went on the wind picked up to 15 - 18 knots and i had no trouble holding it down theres plenty of depower at the bar if you need it. When sending it, it boosts well, it has a good amount of vertical lift and hangtime. Unhooked it behaves really well it sits nicely in the window with no back-stalling, it parks just where you want it and produces a good amont of pop.

Summary - If your looking for a light to medium summer wind weapon the Ozone Zephyr is the perfect choice, It gets you going on the days you wouldnt think are possible and has plenty of performance to have some fun when the wind picks up.
