2010 OZONE ZEPHYR 17M LIGHTWIND KITE REVIEW

Ozones Lightwind specific kite is designed with a high performance profile and a focus on weight saving. The Zephyr delivers the same superior handling, power, feel and control as you have come to expect from Ozone.

The Zephyr is the ideal kite for any rider wishing they could ride in light winds or for heavy riders looking for the ultimate large size kite with a huge wind range.

Out of the bag - Straight away the first thing we noticed was the build quality, as with all Ozone kites the build quality is outstanding everything has a real solid feel to it and is very well thought out and constructed. It comes in a decent easy entry bag with user manual, repair kit and a bar pocket inside. The bar is one of the best on the market this year, clean, simple and very straight forward, features above the bar depower cleat, 100% depower below the bar safety system and solid stainless steel suicide leash attachment.

On the water - The wind started light (about 10 knots) and i had no problems riding upwind on a 135cm board. It delivers very consistent pull and keeps you planing through the lulls, although its a 17m it feels and handles more like a 14m, the turning speed isnt epic but for a 17m kite its pretty good. The re-launch even in light wind is very good just pull on the bar and it rolls off the water - essential in light winds.
As the session went on the wind picked up to 15 - 18 knots and i had no trouble holding it down theres plenty of depower at the bar if you need it. When sending it, it boosts well, it has a good amount of vertical lift and hangtime. Unhooked it behaves really well it sits nicely in the window with no back-stalling, it parks just where you want it and produces a good amont of pop.

Summary - If your looking for a light to medium summer wind weapon the Ozone Zephyr is the perfect choice, It gets you going on the days you wouldnt think are possible and has plenty of performance to have some fun when the wind picks up.
